Explore the fleeting colors of early spring.
Bonjour, friends!
I have a confession to make: Paris has a way of sweeping you off your feet and leaving your head spinning in the best possible way. Between the buttery scent of fresh croissants and the intricate limestone architecture that seems to glow even under grey skies, I’ve been experiencing a bit of a delightful sensory overload.
In the midst of this beautiful whirlwind, a spark of an idea hit me—the kind of "spur-of-the-moment" inspiration that only happens when you’re wandering through the city with a sketchbook in hand.
Honestly, I wish I had thought of this the moment my plane touched down! I know, it’s already Tuesday and the first week of April has technically passed, but between the holiday and getting settled, we’re going to let that slide. This idea just sprung on me, and it was too fun not to share immediately.
To help me process the overwhelming beauty of this city (and to keep my illustrations focused), I’ve decided to launch a weekly series: "A Taste of April in Paris."

The Concept: Minimalism in a Maximalist City
To combat the "too-much-of-a-good-thing" feeling of Paris, I’m challenging myself to work with strictly minimal palettes while I'm here. Each week, I will curate a specific set of colors that capture a distinct Parisian mood. The rule? I will strictly use only these colors for the entire week. It’s a way to find order in the sensory chaos and truly savor the subtle shifts of the season.
Week One: The "Blossom and Stone" Palette
Our first palette is a love letter to the early April atmosphere. The vibe is airy, sweet, and undeniably romantic.
The Inspiration:
* The Stone: I’m looking at those iconic oatmeal-toned Haussmann buildings. That creamy, warm limestone defines the Parisian skyline, and it sits so elegantly against the overcast spring sky.
* The Chill: There is still a crispness in the air that requires a light scarf. To capture that "bite," I’m leaning into deep, moody Payne’s Gray and wet slate. It’s that perfect atmospheric blue-grey of a damp cobblestone street before the sun breaks through.
* The Bloom: Contrast that sturdy stone with the vibrant, translucent pinks of the cherry blossoms and the flowers blooming in the parks. This tone brings in that sweet, romantic floral note that feels so quintessentially "Paris in Spring."
* The Green: Most importantly, we’re capturing those tiny accents of bright, tender green—that specific neon-bud shade that appears for a heartbeat in the parks before the trees plunge into the darker, heavier greens of summer.
These colors are heartbreakingly fleeting. In just a week or so, the blossoms will be a memory and the light will change. This palette is about catching that "blink-and-you’ll-miss-it" magic before it begins to fade.
